First, since early 2003, BoxedArt.com has been hit with a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack, nearly every day. In the early days of the DDoS attacks against BoxedArt.com, they were effective in sporadically interrupting BoxedArt's availability on the Internet. It took a few months to get a firm handle on how these attacks must be defeated, but over time, BoxedArt has been able to return to a near 99.9% uptime, and has gathered vast amounts of DDoS information to assist in pioneering many new preventative measures to help defeat these enormous attacks not only for our site, but for others who would fall victim and prey to these attackers. Second, because the DDoS measures that were implemented by competitors eventually failed, a second attack type was introduced, known as a Joe Job. A Joe Job is a spam attack, where the site advertised is the victim. A volume (and we mean VOLUME) of email was sent out as if it were advertising BoxedArt.com, however it was sent to the same individuals repeatedly day and night so as to not only discredit our name and reputation, but frustrate the individuals receiving these messages such that they would want take action against BoxedArt, essentially creating an army of aggravated netizens. The first time this attack was used, the name of one of our company's officers was stolen directly, and email was forged as though it was from him with the intentions of causing mere reckless havoc. This first Joe Job was soon thwarted though, as the BoxedArt family worked day and night to reply to each individual, provide detailed information as to what was actually occurring, as well as information as to how they could stop this. The bulk of individuals were just happy that someone was taking the time to explain this matter, which is representative of how forthright our entire company presents itself in all aspects of our network - our visitors and members are the most important factor, without them, none of us would be here. Third, a second Joe Job was initiated, which was the more interesting and telling of the two. The second Joe Job was meant to collapse our template employment and recruitment system. The reason that this is so interesting is because the designer recruitment took place on foreign message boards, in a specific country, and translated into a specific language by a foreign liaison. So to put it shortly, the competitor that intercepted the details of our job search, would have had to not only know of the foreign job boards, but be able to read the specific language, in which the ad was written by our liaison, in order to know the specific contact information that was used in these job postings. However, as you can see by the release of our new inventory on a daily basis this was of no success, as most of our design team is part of our in house family, and continues to create amazing additions to our site regularly. Fourth, BoxedArt has also faced fraud attacks, which we are becoming better and better at defeating. Fraudulent purchases are often submitted by competition to try to incur chargebacks on our merchant accounts, as well as well to try to obtain our merchandise illegally to distribute. New techniques have been extremely successful in preventing both of these things from happening, and in helping to ensure the survival of BoxedArt as well as its value for our legitimate members. Many competitors seems to be so threatened by all of the failed attempts to collapse BoxedArt.com, that they have now started a campaign in an attempt to discourage users from purchasing from BoxedArt, since our continued survival does not seem to be near an end any time soon. As for those that are interested to know where this matter stands now, all of these attacks are under heavy investigation by the FBI, and this matter has essentially been solved. Unfortunately our competition resides in an area of the world with restrictions when it comes to extradition proceedings, so it may be some time before any closure is made on these matters. However, the authorities are engaged in conversations with providers of these individuals regularly, whom several have decided to cease their operations with these criminals once learning of the overwhelming evidence against these parties, and we hope that others will eventually follow suit.
